The City of Clarksburg is seeking a firm with experience in providing traffic analysis to West Virginia Division of Highway review standards, related to downtown own-way traffic modifications. In particular, The City of Clarksburg has two West Virginia State Highways that cross through the central business district, West Pike Street and West Main Street. Both roadways are currently designed as one-way thoroughfares with West Pike Street traffic traveling westward and West Main Street traffic traveling eastward. The city is seeking analysis to confirm if bi-directional traffic flows would provide increased commerce, methods to enhance traffic flows in the project area, and alternative design methods that may be utilized to increased density in the downtown area while maintaining levels of service acceptable to the West Virginia Division of Highways. Imaging below shows the project area and the primary roads for analysis included in this area. As shown, multiple intersections will require analysis to ensure turning movements are not diminished to an unacceptable standard, on-street loading zones and parking are still accessible, and pedestrian movements and opportunities for outdoor commerce in the right-of-way are not diminished to an unacceptable level.
