The greater Clarksburg area has many historical sites to visit and some of most interesting architecture to explore. When traveling north or south along I79, Clarksburg is situated at the intersection of I79 and U.S. Route 50. Getting on and off the interstate to visit with us is a breeze.

Heading south along I79, take exit 115 and visit the Historic Quiet Dell Grade School which is now home to West Virginia Heritage Crafts. This artisans co-op boast rooms filled with items created
and produced by West Virginia Artisans. Adjacent to it is the West Virginia CCC Camp Museum with over 250
memorabilia items from the 1930s and 1940s each one with a story. [Between 1933-1942, the federal Civilian
Conservation Corps had over 4,000 CCC camps with 67 camps within the state of West Virginia. The CCC men:


 


Continuing south on I79, take exit 110 to the scenic 532 acre Watters Smith Memorial State Park.

The park encompasses a historical restoration interpretive area with museum guided tours, swimming pool,

activity building, recreational courts and miles of hiking trails and a gift show. The Interpretive Area includes

a horse and cattle barn, mill room, corn crib, hog pen, smokehouse, residence, food storage cellar,

woodworking shop, a farm barn and a quaint blacksmith shop.

Back on I79 again to exit 99 [Weston] and then about 6 miles to the Lamberts Winery. This experience is

one that even locals enjoy doing again and again. Jim and Debbie Lambert have built a beautiful facility

that is resembles more of a comfortable home with its wonderful covered patio area with outdoor fireplace

and waterfall. Sipping their French Hybrid and American Varietal Grape wines couldn't be in a better setting.

They also have a gift shop with WV handmade pottery and gift baskets. When in Weston, tour the former
Weston State Hospital the TV series, Ghost Hunters, filmed a segment here. Also at this exit is the
historic Jacksons Mill which introduces visitors to the early Appalachian frontier life. The centerpiece is the
Jacksons Mill where young Stonewall Jackson worked for his uncle as a boy. While the old Mill is now a
museum, theres an operating gristmill in the historic area all a part of the 532 acre WVU Jacksons Mill Center
for Lifelong Learning.

 

Back in Clarksburg, a host of restaurants awaits you upon your return. We are blessed with many chain

and franchised restaurants including Texas Roadhouse, Applebees, Ruby Tuesdays, Boomerangs,

Japanese Steakhouse, Eat n Park, among others. We also have a host of old family established restaurants that bring diners from long distances to enjoy their cuisine. Some favorites are Minards Family

If you find yourself with a need to just get outside for a walk, travel to the citys large Veterans Memorial Park

just off of Milford Street. A beautiful 1 mile walking trail along the West Fork River awaits you as well as a full

sized Olympian pool, miniature golf.

 

In the mood for shopping, well Clarksburg offers one of the largest strip mall shopping experiences in the

state! Eastpointe and Newpointe Shopping Centers [laid out as if one continuous shopping area] offers

both large department stores and smaller shopping outlets. Lowes, Super Kmart, Sams Club, Kohls, Super

Wal-Mart, Pier One, Circuit City can be found here. There are also many spas and womens salons as well including the well respected Tuscan Sun Spa located near Lowes. In downtown Clarksburg,

Embellishments offers high end specialty gifts that you might find in a New York gift shop. On the second

floor is Wicked Sisters clothing store with again clothing that is one of a kind.

revitalized historic area of Glen Elk. Take the Clarksburgs Second Street exit and turn right; right again
