Any person that wants to sell merchandise or services without an established place of business, is required to apply for a hawkers and peddlers permit. For instance, door-to-door selling or from-the-pickup selling are examples of circumstances that need the hawkers and peddlers permit. Companies that have salespersons working door-to-door also need to apply for a itinerant vendors permit. Both applications can be received by calling the finance department or filling out a electronic form.
A cash bond will be needed when the application is accepted. If no action is brought or claim made upon the bond within ninety (90) days from the cessation of the business, the same shall be refunded to the person giving bond. Any balance remaining on the bond after the payment of Business and Occupational Taxes will be refunded. Applications will only be accepted with payment in cash, money order, or certified check. No personal checks will be accepted.
The cash bond shall be refunded at the cessation of the business, upon written notice, or may be rolled over for the following year. However, in the event that the taxpayer fails to pay business and occupation taxes due and owing to the City within 30 days after the end of each quarter, cash bond shall automatically be forfeited unto the City as payment towards said taxes. If the Finance Director obtains information indicating that the amount of bond forfeited is not sufficient to cover the amount of taxes due, he shall issue a supplemental assessment of estimated taxes mailed to the address shown on the license application.
