About Clarksburg
The greater Clarksburg area consists of special communities with unique pasts, exciting presents, and promising futures. Scattered throughout our area are small towns offering a wide variety of things to make life pleasant. Golf at several country clubs, hunt in the woods and fields, fish in nearby streams and lakes and visit local malls and scattered specialty shops.

The Clarksburg area continues to be an important crossroads on U S Route 50 and 1-79. Many new businesses have built or relocated here due to easy access to mid-Atlantic metropolitan areas. They include FBI Fingerprinting Facility, Precision Coil, Lockheed Aeronautical Systems, Winfield Corporation and the West Virginia Aerospace Center. Excellent medical facilities include one of the finest VA hospitals in the East with a new VA Nursing Home in the works, and United Hospital Center will soon construct a state- of-the-art facility along the Corridor D of 1-79 to bring the quality of life to the forefront in our area.

Our area has the nation's lowest crime rate, making our way of life even more desirable. One of the many recreational areas is Stonewall Jackson Dam and Resort in adjacent Lewis County. Easy to reach via 1-79, this 2,000 acre lake with 82 miles of shoreline is part of a 20,000 acre outdoor area. The addition of the new Arnold Palmer golf course adds to the splendor. For boaters, there isn't a finer water sports arena than Tygart Lake with its 10-mile lake. Audra State Park and Watters Smith State Park offer many activities as well. The North Bend Rails to Trails is a 66-mile stretch of railroad line in four counties with plans by the Harrison County Commission to connect all lines crossing through our county on the west, north and south. This expansion will make Clarksburg the hub of this outdoor recreational Mecca for joggers, bikers and horseback riders.
Festivals and celebrations of heritages abound in our area as well as recreations of pioneer life with Fort New Salem and Prickett's Fort. [Fort New Salem has been closed for some time due to change in ownership of the local university on which lands this fort resides. However, the new owner has recently donated the Fort and land to a Foundation that will again open this Fort to the public.] Covered bridges, civil war trenches and historical graves and landmarks abound in this area as well. Clarksburg city parks offer live bands on summer nights and the permanent fixture of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra on July 4th in the City of Clarksburg Park.
Clarksburg is proud to be a part of this Mountaineer Spirit. Clarksburg offers a slower pace, a healthier lifestyle and an overall better way of life!
