Fall Clean-Up

The City of Clarksburg has successfully completed another season of their annual Fall clean-up. The 2018 Fall Clean-up commenced on October 1 and concluded on October 26. Each area of Clarksburg had a designated date for their items to be picked up. Fall Clean-up allows Clarksburg residents to properly dispose of items that are considered to be too large or bulky for regular trash pickups. Appliances and electronics are now picked up during the City’s cleanup.

“This is another great service the city provides owners which allows for an alternate way to dispose of materials that can clutter their properties”, explained City Manager Martin Howe.

The 2018 Fall Clean-up accumulated 249 tons of debris from residents, which eliminates that waste from ending up in residential neighborhoods, along river banks, or other isolated areas. The Clean-up is a time consuming task for Clarksburg’s Public Works Department, and requires significant manpower to complete the project. The project can involve up to 50 percent of the employees of the Public Works Department.

Howe commended the Department for the work it requires to complete the cleanup, “The Public Works Department employees should be commended for their hard work and dedication it takes to complete the 3 week clean up.”

The service is utilized by the Clarksburg community, and continues to show in the amount of debris that is collected.  The Spring cleanup was reinstated by City Council, as it was reinstated into the budget, after being put on hold in 2008. The 2018 Spring Cleanup was deemed successful after producing 253 tons of debris for the cleanup.   Another cleanup will be held in the spring of 2019.
