Frank Loria Field Update

The City of Clarksburg and City of Clarksburg Board of Park Commissioners have agreed to fund the Frank Loria Field Artificial Turf Project for the youth of Clarksburg.

The original turf was installed in April 2018, but unfortunately after only five days of use a devastating flood on April 16 rendered the field unplayable.

The new field was constructed and installed in a manner to prevent flood waters from damaging the field in the future.

Steps taken include; installation of a concrete curb around the perimeter of the field to attach the turf, replacement of the existing fencing with 4” terminal posts and 3” line posts each concreted in place, the new fencing will support a windscreen on the inside and a geotextile fabric on the exterior. This material will prevent debris from getting on the field and assist with diverting the flow of flood waters.

Additionally, repairs were made to the drainage system and stone base before laser grading took place to insure the field will drain properly.

The synthetic turf will be baseball specific and have a higher concentration of infill, the sand and rubber in the turf, of at least seven pounds per square foot which will add stability to the turf.

The Park Commission is in the process of rebuilding the press box, concession stand and restrooms which were damaged by a fire in March 2018.

Both the City of Clarksburg and City of Clarksburg Board of Park Commissioners intend to have the field ready for play at the start of baseball season next year.
