The Robert C. Byrd Thespian Troop will take the stage of the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 3p.m. The Troop, directed by Ryan Turner, consisted of 28 honors actors, actresses, and crew.
The Thespian Troop will be competing against over 20 other Troops from all over the state. The Troop that wins the State Title will advance on to the National Thespian Troop Competition in Nebraska. The RCB Thespians advanced on to the State Competition after placed third in their region.
The Thespians began practicing their act in late October before placing it on hold for their production of Newsies. The Thespians recently performed at the Harrison County Arts Expo at Bridgeport to showcase their talent. This was just an exhibition for Thespian Troops and Show Choirs to display their talent to locals.
The RCB Thespians will be performing Her Senior Year written by Cody Moore. The one act play, which is under 45 minutes, is about the valedictorian, head cheerleader that is diagnosed with Leukemia, and her and her friends are left to cope with how someone so “perfect” could be dealing with Leukemia.
“I am so excited for my troop to perform in such a large venue, they’ve never had the opportunity to perform in such a large space”, said Turner. “I know they will bring their “A” game and show everyone what a great show they are capable of performing”, he continued.
The City of Clarksburg would like to wish the Robert C. Byrd Thespian Troop Good Luck in the State Competition! We hope they will be bringing a State Championship back to Clarksburg, and they secure the bid to Nationals!
