The City of Clarksburg has been remediating 10 road slip projects due to embankment failures throughout the City of Clarksburg. There are 7 active or completed projects and 3 projects that are being monitored throughout the 2018-2019 winter season.
The Request For Proposals for engineering services on all slips went out April 13, 2018 and all proposals were due by April 30, 2018. All of the Engineers who provided proposals were interviewed the week of May 10, 2018 by the City Administration. Each Engineering Firm that was interviewed was assigned 2 slip remediation projects. Clarksburg City Council approved Ascent Consulting and Engineering at their regularly scheduled Council meeting held on May 17, 2018, while all other project Engineers were approved during Council’s meeting on June 7, 2018. Project Engineers that were approved at the June, 7 2018 Council meeting were: Hornor Brothers Engineers, Terradon Corporation, Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc., The Thrasher Group, and Ascent Consulting and Engineering.
The project that is located on West Virginia Ave near North 19th Street is being monitored by Thrasher Engineering on a monthly basis. The initial review of the project determined that an area of 300 to 400 feet of the slope below WV Ave has been deteriorating and sliding off of the high wall for some time. It also appeared to the Engineer, that an approximately 60 foot long area adjacent to N.19th Street and the WV Avenue intersection has moved more recently. Further subsurface inspections will be necessary to determine the actual materials necessary for corrective action. Engineering cost for monitoring the project is $11,200.
