Women’s organization, Libera visited the Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. Libera, was founded in 2014 by Karen Haring, to provide a wholistic approach for women and teens. The organization addresses the barriers they may face that limits them from finding their freedom. Libera also connects women and teens to outside resources when they may not be able to provide the services the recipient may need. Libera provides connections through groups, mentoring, resources, workshops, and volunteer opportunities that helps enable the women of West Virginia to find their identities, their voices, their strengths, their purposes, and their freedom. Since Libera’s founding the organization has seen the lives of women transform from a place of being stuck and imprisoned to a place of hope and freedom.
Libera was contacted by library staff member, Shannon Jackson, after her and another co-worker had a common connection through the organization. “I love the wholistic approach that it provides and that focuses on the emotional, financial, social and economic needs of women”, said Jackson. “Libera will provide resources to the women of Clarksburg who might not be willing to seek these resources on their own”.
Libera hopes to have a listener designated to Harrison County, and continue to hold groups that will encompass their six-week LIBERA Model. The LIBERA Model offers a safe environment for women to be heard. The LIBERA Model consists of: Listening, Illuminating, Believing, Envisioning, Reaching, and Alighting. Each group is led by a designated listener, someone who is trained to meet with groups or women one-on-one to help encourage and support their growth and empowerment.
“Libera has strong potential in Harrison County, but specifically Clarksburg, to help discover the root issues in women and teens, which will help unveil the lies they believe that hold them back from being all that they are”, said Founder, Karen Haring.
